It is also from these favorable natural conditions that the ecological crab farming model, friendly to the environment, has been strongly developed by the people of Dai Hoa Loc commune, becoming a key occupation, bringing stable income and improving the economic life of hundreds of households. For generations, sea crabs have not only been a valuable natural product, but also a livelihood, a “blessing of the sea” that has nurtured many generations of people here.
With the desire to enhance the value of local agricultural products, create stable livelihoods and sustainable development, Dai Hoa Loc Agricultural Cooperative was established, gathering experienced crab farmers, sharing the same direction: clean agriculture, maintaining quality and affirming the Dai Hoa Loc sea crab brand in the market. Different from industrial farming methods that focus on output, the cooperative’s crab farming model focuses on natural, sustainable and environmentally friendly factors.
Natural sea crabs are raised in ponds intercropped with mangrove forests and mangrove forests – where the water environment is naturally regulated, rich in alluvium and native foods.
Crabs eat trash fish, snails, mussels – absolutely no industrial feed or stimulants are used. Thanks to that, Dai Hoa Loc crab – the quintessence of the famous salty land has firm meat, natural sweetness, fragrant and fatty roe, not fishy, not having the strange smell like industrially farmed crabs.
Whether steamed, fried with tamarind, grilled or cooked in hot pot, as long as it is cooked, the aroma will spread, making anyone who has tasted it unforgettable. Not only stopping at farming, Dai Hoa Loc Agricultural Cooperative has gradually built a closed process: from care, harvesting, preliminary processing, to preservation and packaging.
Crabs are carefully selected, classified by size, then frozen using modern technology to preserve their freshness and nutritional value. The cooperative’s sea crab products are now available at many distribution systems and restaurants, and are trusted by consumers in and outside the province as a clean, delicious and safe specialty.
In 2021, “Ben Tre Crab” was officially granted a certificate of protection for Geographical Indication by the Department of Intellectual Property – Ministry of Science & Technology. This is a recognition of the value and reputation of sea crab products farmed in the typical brackish-salt water area of Ben Tre province, including the farming area under the indication in Dai Hoa Loc, Binh Dai district.
Geographical indication is not only a prestigious title, but also a commitment to the origin, quality, safety and reputation of the product. When consumers choose crabs with the label “Ben Tre Crab”, it means they are trusting in a reputable local brand, associated with clean raw material areas, serious farming processes and sustainable ecological values.
Each crab is not just a simple agricultural product, but also the result of the connection between people and land, between passion and technology, between tradition and innovation. With its tireless efforts, Dai Hoa Loc Agricultural Cooperative is contributing to creating a new look for local agriculture – where farmers are in control of their products, and bringing the hometown’s specialties further on the Vietnamese culinary map.
